Tarrant County Unity Council

The Tarrant County Unity Council (TCUC) is a multi-sector collaboration dedicated to addressing gaps in equity and inclusivity in order to increase racial equity efforts across Tarrant County and impact sustainable change for our most vulnerable populations.

Background

Both locally and nationally, COVID-19 has highlighted and exacerbated a multitude of inequities and disparities among African Americans, Hispanics, and Indigenous communities that have been largely ignored for decades. Health equity includes everyone having the same opportunities to be as healthy as possible. When policies, practices, and systems that support health are equitable, poor health outcomes can be reduced, health disparities can be prevented, and the community benefits as a whole.

We need to ensure that resources are equitably available for everyone to maintain physical and mental health. Resources include housing, transportation, important and accurate information, access to goods and services, education, and medical and mental healthcare that are all tailored to meet the specific needs of people from diverse cultures and communities.

The Health Equity and Community Engagement Division in conjunction with the Tarrant County Unity Council (TCUC), will seek to build, leverage, and expand health, housing, transportation, and communication resources that advance racial equity and address other inequitable social conditions, with the purpose of reducing or eliminating health disparities and health inequities.
