HISTORICAL NOTE
The Woman's Wednesday Club is one of the oldest continuously functioning clubs in Fort Worth. If Fort Worth is known as the city of "Cowboys and Culture," this group can be greatly credited with the fostering and development of the "Culture" for which Fort Worth is so famous. Founded in 1889 as a group which encouraged the arts and literature, members were key original sponsors of the Fort Worth Library Association, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association and the Fort Worth Art Association, which later became the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

PROVENANCE AND COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
This collection was stored in a closet in the Club's rooms at 1316 Pennsylvania Avenue for many decades.  Recognizing the importance of the Club to the overall history of the city, county and region, the membership donated their historical materials to the Tarrant County Archives in September, 2013. The Club archive, covering some 125 years, is amazingly complete -- particularly in terms of minutes of meetings, yearbooks and other records since the groups founding. The Club has expressed its plans to donate records to the Tarrant County Archives every five years in order to continue to update their named collection.
