The Tarrant County Historical Commission (TCHC) is a volunteer organization with members appointed to two-year terms by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court. TCHC's mission is to promote the historic heritage of Tarrant County. Since 1975, the TCHC has placed over 400 State historical markers and helped protect numerous cemeteries in Tarrant County. Members of the TCHC serve on committees focused on archeology, historical markers, budget, public relations, and education. Each year TCHC awards community members for their contributions to local historic preservation and public service with the William E. Jary Award and the Tom Vandergriff Award. In 2004, the TCHC hosted its first annual Summit meeting to bring together various county entities for the discussion of local historical projects.
