FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY & HOMEOWNERSHIP
FSS Program Information
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program assists qualifying regular and Family Unification Program (FUP) families enrolled in the Housing Choice Voucher Program to achieve economic independence, reducing the dependency of low-income families on federal, state or local welfare assistance as well as rent or homeownership subsidies including HCV Section public assistance.
The FSS program empowers families to become self-sufficient through the removal of barriers and by increased access to education, employment opportunities and referrals to supportive services for barrier removal and home ownership preparation as noted below:
- Through coordination with social service providers, workforce programs and other private/non-profit organizations to ensure that contracted families have better access to available services.
- Through unique partnerships with the private sector, the FSS Program also incorporates wealth building curriculum's and individualized homeownership counseling to prepare families for independence through homeownership.
