Eagle Mountain Park

In 2007, 400 acres on the shores of Eagle Mountain Lake - initially aquired from individual landowners for a state park in the mid 1980's - was purchased by the Tarrant Regional Water District. The deal, the result of a huge grass-roots effort to prevent the land being used for commercial purposes, was brokered by the Trust for Public Land and assisted by $2 million dollars from Tarrant County.

Through the efforts of the Fort Worth Star Telegram Editorial Board, more than $17,000 was raised from individual donors, including elementary school children. State legislators representing Tarrant County from both political parties contributed their support as well. Environmental groups such as "Save Eagle Mountain Lake" stood side by side with energy companies such as Chesapeake, XTO and TXU. As a result of this unprecedented coordination of effort, the park is now available for the enjoyment of current citizens as well as future generations to come.
