The Criminal Investigations Division is comprised of 11 detectives, a Victim Assistance Coordinator, a detective sergeant, and a detective lieutenant. Detectives are assigned to Property Crimes, Crimes Against Persons, and Crimes Against Children. Property Crimes includes burglary, theft, criminal mischief, fraud, and identity theft. Crimes against Persons include family violence offenses, stalking, assaults, murders, questionable deaths, and sexual assault. The Crimes Against Children investigates allegations of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect of children. There is also a detective who investigates medical child abuse. Each detective diligently works to identify, locate, and arrest criminals who negatively impact our communities in Tarrant county.

The Sex Offender Registration and Compliance Detective ensures that offenders required by law or court order to register as a sex offender comply with all required guidelines. Registered sex offenders may be required to register annually or up to quarterly. The Sex Offender Registration and Compliance updates the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender database.

The Game Room Task Force is tasked with monitoring game rooms and enforcing state law and County rules related to game rooms.

The Victim Assistance Coordinator provides assistance and support to crime victims, including helping understand and complete the Texas Attorney General Crime Victim Compensation paperwork. The Victim Assistance Coordinator helps educate crime victims on their rights and the criminal justice process.

Crime Scene Unit consists of eight civilian Crime Scene Investigators and one sergeant, who is a sworn peace office. The crime scene unit is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The unit responds to process crime scenes from multiple Tarrant County agencies. The Crime Scene unit is responsible for photographing victims and scenes, collection evidence, packaging evidence, locating and lifting fingerprint evidence, and fingerprint comparison.

Crime Scene Investigators must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, or an applicable degree and many have a Master's degree. Each crime scene investigator must obtain and maintain a crime scene certification through the International Association for Identification and fingerprint certification through the Texas Department of Public Safety Automatic Fingerprint Identification System.
